The VidCommons Project is an initiative to collect, curate, and distribute content released under permissive licenses, and distribute said media across the fediverse using PeerTube's peer-to-peer media streaming architecture. This includes films, television shows, skits, documentaries, and more.
VidCommons exists at an intersection between Free Software, Free Culture, and the Decentralization movement, with an intent to bridge the three simultaneously and provide access to the Open Web free-of-charge. This is an ongoing project, with processes in place to catalogue and document many pieces of media that may have slipped through the cracks of Archive.org and Wikipedia's own documentation on freely-licensed media.
